Lessons in Being a Mom From a First Timer

See #'s 10 and 11

Today I realized I have learned A WHOLE LOT in the last 2.5 months.

1.First of all staying up until 4 am and partying is MUCH different than staying up with a baby.

2. You must take care of yourself to take care of a baby. It is NO fun to take care of a sick baby when you are also sick.

3. POOP happens! And sometimes it is a fountain!

4. Speaking of fountains, little boys will shower you!

5. The badge of motherhood...a little white glob on your black sweater!

6. Vaccums, hairdryers, and vibrating chairs are GOD SENDS!

7. Just because the clothes say 3 months, doesn't mean he will wear them when he is 3 months. (Landen has been wearing 3 months size clothes since he was 1 month!)

8. A car ride alone can be a self esteem pumper, or a terrible terrible NIGHTMARE.

9. You can't be afraid to get out of the house. (Says the lady with the baby with RSV)

10. Cease the little moments you have.

11. Be resourceful.

12. A picture a 1,000 words, but write it down anyway. You won't remember what day they first cooed or smiled at you unless you do!

13. Pregnancy brain doesn't stop immediately after delivery.

14. Nursing is painful at first...but it is worth it if you can suffer through the first few weeks or months.

15. The breastfeeding clinic was my favorite place to go. I actually looked forward to whipping out my boob and feeding my little guy in "public"! :)

16. Do it! Ask for help! No one will think less of you. If they do, they aren't parents!

17. Just because the door is locked and there is a sign on the door doesn't mean the janitor won't unlock your door and invite the whole fire department into your room while you are PUMPING!

18. NO JURY DUTY!

19. A sleeping baby is not hungry! Don't wake them up, you can't anyway!

20. Finally going back to work is TOUGH, but having a sick baby and not being able to stay home and cuddle is the worst feeling in the world.

I am sure there are more things that I have forgotten.
